APTA NEWS

APTA IS GOING GREEN!  It is now easier to have 100% membership in your clinic by being able to “OPT OUT” of journals so that there are not multiple journals coming to one clinic.

APTA has made it easier than ever to help the environment and cut down on clutter.

You can "opt out" of receiving Physical Therapy (PTJ) and PT Magazine in print each month simply by updating your preferences in the My Profile area of myAPTA (instructions below). You'll still have access to your publications online and can reference current and archived issues 24/7/365—without digging through boxes or files in your basement!

Why go green? Besides being conscious of our environmental resources and making more room for yourself, you'll find PTJ Online full of features not possible in print:

·                     Search on keywords, author names, and time periods simultaneously across PTJ and more than 1,000 other journals---including some of the highest-impact research available on the Web.

·                     Read "The Bottom Line," clinical summaries that put research findings into the context of practice.

·                     Listen to podcast debates and discussions that focus on your practice needs as well as shine a light on the bigger picture of physical therapy services.

·                     View videos that show you how interventions were done and how patients progressed through the episode of care.

·                     Post a comment immediately about an article you've just read—and have it published later in print.

·                     Download PTJ articles directly into your citation manager—such as EndNotes or ProCite.

·                     Customize email alerts to tell you when an article has been cited by another article on HighWire, or when a correction or an e-letter about the article has been posted.

And soon you can see the same full-color layout of features and columns from PT-Magazine of Physical Therapy online as you do in the print magazine, plus the text of each issue's news and letters to the editor.

Instructions:

To go green, select "myAPTA" from the horizontal navigation menu (you'll be asked to login, if you haven't already done so), then proceed to "My Profile." Click on the "Email & Publications" tab, choose your "opt out" preferences and save.

Transmittal 88 Released

On May 7, 2008, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released Transmittal 88 ("Therapy Personnel Qualifications and Policies Effective January 1, 2008 "). This long awaited transmittal offers clarification to the policy changes outlined in the 2008 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule, including the 90-day recertification requirement. APTA's summary of this transmittal is available here for members.

Stop the Therapy Cap & Fee Schedule Cuts!

Unless Congress acts by July 1, PTs will be subject to Medicare payment cuts and an arbitrary therapy cap.

Fee Schedule
Without further congressional action, physical therapists will be facing a 10.6% cut in Medicare payments on July 1, 2008.

Visit the Medicare Fee Schedule Resource Center to learn more and take action.

Follow this link for information on Medicare fee schedule guidelines.

Therapy Cap
Without congressional action before July 1, an $1810 therapy cap will go back into effect without an exceptions process. This cap for physical therapy is shared with speech language pathology in all outpatient settings except the hospital outpatient department.

Visit the Therapy Cap Resource Center to learn more and take action.
